There Is Room for You

I love window seats because they give me the opportunity take in sights unavailable to me on a day-to-day basis.  One thing I noticed during a recent trip as the plane coasted 30,000 feet above ground was that there is so much land yet to be occupied.  You see statistics of the billions of people occupying this earth, hear of overcrowded cities, maxed out prisons, families living in one-bedroom apartments, smog clouding the air from too many vehicles on the road.  All of that and you’d think every square inch of Earth was taken.  Not so.  There is so much land untouched.
During that flight I had a revelation.
How many times have you heard, “Why would you want to do that?  There are so many ___ already?  You should do something different.”  Those words might not have been spoken to you, but maybe you’ve heard them in passing or know of someone they were said to.  I remember sharing with someone I wanted to be a writer.  They responded with very similar words.  Yes, there are millions of doctors, lawyers, teachers, therapists.  Thousands of makeup artists, hairstylists, nail technicians.  Tons of life coaches, writers, actors/actresses, sports players.  But, guess what?  There is room for you.
What if I had let the fact that there are thousands of other writers already out there defeat me?  Who says I can’t do what I want to do just because there are others out there already doing it?  Michael Jordan may have been one of the best basketball players ever and Jerry Rice may have been one of the best football players.  Have the leagues been forced to shut down because those two retired from the game?  Nope.  Have other actors and actresses given up on their dreams of acting because Meryl Steep and Dustin Hoffman won Academy Awards?  Nope.  There are tons of teams in need of new players and awards looking to have new names engraved on them.  Has there only been one author on the New York Times Best Sellers List?  Nope.  You could very well be who the world is waiting on.
No matter how many people have done a thing, there will always be that many more who have the dream to do it as well.  There is room for each one of us to do the same things in so many different ways.  Go for yours!
SOULspiration:  You will never run out of space to be who you were placed here to be.  You just have to get busy doing that very thing.
